In Bangla, the word দিন (pronunciation: din) typically means a day, that is 24 hours. It can also mean the day time. But for days of the week, Bangla uses a different term namely বার (pronunciation: bar). For instance, শনিবার (Pronunciation: shonibar) is Saturday and রবিবার (robibar) is Sunday. The following chart shows the days of the week in Bangla. Note that the week in Bangladesh starts with Sunday.

In Bangla times of day, rather than a particular point of time, are frequently used in making informal appointments. For instance, expressions like “I will meet you in the morning” are more frequent than “I will meet at 9am.” Some parts of the day do not match with those in English. For example, noon is 12 O’clock in English, but দুপুর (dupur) indicates the time from 12pm to 2pm. Below is the chart for times of day in Bangla.

When telling time Bangla speakers use the word বেলা (bela) with times of Day, for instance ভোর বেলা (bhor bela), সকাল বেলা (shokal bela), and বিকাল বেলা (bikal bela) and so on. When telling time by hours, Bangla speakers use a particle namely টা similar to English O’clock, for instance ৬ টা is 6 O’clock. Minutes and Seconds are expressed without any such particles. The expression ‘past’ in 5 past 10 has a Bangla counterpart called বেজে (beje) and the order of the hour and minutes are opposite to English, for instance the aforesaid time is expressed as ১০ টা বেজে ৫ (dosh Ta beje pac) in Bangla. The expression X minutes to Y in Bangla would be Y টা বাজতে (bajte) X. The following chart presents some examples of time telling.

Bangladesh is a country of six seasons. Bangla calendar has 12 months. Every two months constitute a season. Although the Gregorian calendar is widely used in Bangladesh nationally, Bangla calendar is used to keep an account of many festivals and cultural events.
